Note: Village residents who independently contact a Village-contracted company or utility for additional private services (e.g., extra trash removal) are individually responsible for any bills that result. Inquiries about whether or not the Village will pay for a particular service should be directed to the Clerk/Treasurer prior to contacting the company or utility for service. It is the responsibility of residents to contract individually with other service providers (such as cellphones and cable service).

Curbside trash removal services are provided without charge to residents on Tuesday of each week. Trash removal services are provided by Kimble of Dover, Ohio.
To ensure good service please observe the following:
General notes:
When a legal holiday falls on Monday pickup will be a day late.
Recycling
Place plastic bins at curb by 6:00 a.m. each Tuesday.
Please place recyclable materials in the 95-gallon blue rolling carts with the point of the arrow facing the street.
Trash
Please place trash in the 95-gallon green rolling carts. These were supplied by Kimble and should stay with the house if you move.
Leave space between the recycling and trash cans.
Kimble uses a truck with a remote arm that is designed for moving items in trash cans. Items for pickup should fit into a trash can. This new remote arm requires a stronger grip on the container. Residents who have more trash than can fit into the green rolling can may want to consider using a can with reinforced sides to insure their trash container lasts longer.
Use appropriate trash cans or plastic bags. Place trash in bags within the can.
Place trash within five feet of the roadway.
Will take branches tied in 4 foot lengths.
Call Kimble (800-201-0005) between 8-5 for matters relating to service, NOT VILLAGE OFFICIALS.
Bulk items
Guidelines about acceptable bulk items. You can also click here to request a bulk pick-up online.
Call Kimble (800-201-0005) 24 hours in advance if you have large items to pick up. Occasionally, they charge extra for large items.
If you place an item out for pick-up and the Village is charged for that item, you will receive a bill from the Village. Any unpaid bills will be placed on your property tax bill.
To obtain service of pickup at the house rather than at the street, contract privately with Kimble.
NOTE: Village residents who independently contact Kimble or another agency for additional trash removal services are individually responsible for any bills that result. Inquiries about whether or not the Village will pay for a particular service should be directed to the Clerk/Treasurer prior to contacting the company or utility for service.

General Snow and Ice Removal Guidelines for All Village Locations
Thoroughfares are plowed when snow accumulates to 2 inches or higher.
Ice control begins when thoroughfare surfaces become icy.
Snow removal starts no later than 6:00 a.m., is 100% completed by 10:00 p.m. and is done at other times as needed. Note: As a cost saving measure, the Village doesn’t plow at night unless conditions are particularly unusual (e.g., very heavy snowfall).
The Village’s contract with the snow removal company calls for snow to not
Interfere with thoroughfare traffic or access to private driveways.
Be stockpiled at the ends of cul-de-sacs.
Salt is applied to all Village thoroughfares only at hills, curves and intersections in sufficient quantities to melt any frozen precipitation under these conditions
When slippery, and/or icy conditions warrant.
After any type of ice storm.
At the request of the Village.
The Village of Sugar Bush Knolls is a member of NOPEC’s natural gas and electric aggregation programs. NOPEC is a non-profit group of over 235 communities that negotiates lower utility rates. As Ohio’s largest governmental energy aggregator, NOPEC buys gas and electricity in bulk to help lower your utility bills. Customers can choose from a variety of rate plans including 12- and 24-month fixed term, monthly variable and even 100% renewable products. For more information, go to nopec.org or contact NOPEC’s Customer Care Center at 855-667-3201.
Joining NOPEC cost the Village and its residents nothing. By living in the Village, residents are automatically a member of NOPEC, but they can opt-out. Natural gas and electricity are handled as separate contracts but follow the same procedures, as described below.
Village residents who do not have a contract with a natural gas or electricity supplier will
Become members of NOPEC if they do nothing.
Receive a letter offering them the opportunity to opt-out of NOPEC every two years for natural gas and every three years for electricity.
Continue to have their electricity and natural gas delivered by the local utility. There is no disruption of service and the utility company will still continue to send the natural gas or electric bill.
Receive electric or natural gas rates negotiated exclusively for NOPEC member communities if they don’t opt-out of NOPEC.
Village residents who have a contract with another natural gas or electricity supplier
Won’t receive an opt-out letter.
Have the option of canceling their current contract and opting to use NOPEC, but they might have to pay an early withdrawal fee to their current supplier.
Can sign up for NOPEC’s electronic newsletter for energy-saving tips and chances to win smart home technology. To sign up, go to nopec.org/subscribe.
Village residents who let their contract with another natural gas or electricity supplier lapse will receive an opt-out letter from NOPEC within two months.
More information (including determining if NOPEC is already your natural gas or electricity supplier) can be found here or by calling (855)-667-3201.
Leaf pick-up typically begins the third or fourth week in October. The Village newsletter announces the exact starting date each year.
Leaf pick-up typically concludes the first week in December. The Village newsletter announces the exact ending date each year.
Pick-up is on Mondays and Thursdays.
Please place all leaves in unbagged piles by the road, but not in the road.
Please do not include twigs or limbs in your piles.
This question and answer document was posted in anticipation of a vote by village property owners in 2015 to determine the possibility of public water service for our village. Property owners will receive one ballot for each parcel capable of being served from a public main. We have 118 parcels of property so eligible along our village thoroughfares. A simple majority of parcel owners voting in favor of public water service will cause Village Council to make the request of our County Commissioners.
The Q&A contains 23 questions, answers and tables of information about the process of public water service.
The vote did not pass, but the documentation is retained here for historical purposes.
Council members at the time included
Mayor James Beal
Council President John Guidubaldi
Council Members Elizabeth Hartley, Dianne Kauffman, Suzanne Lipps, Amey Park and Nancy Stillwagon
Water: All residences are served by private wells. The option for bringing water service to the Village was discussed and voted down in 2015. See the historical documents about that here.
